Dr Jyrki Saarinen Is a Member of the 2022 Optica Fellow Class

Dr Jyrki Saarinen Elected as an Optica Fellow Member

Sensmet Board Member, professor Jyrki Saarinen, Head of the Department of Physics and Mathematics and Head of the Institute of Photonics at the University of Eastern Finland, has been elected Optica Fellow. The Optica Fellow Class 2022 consists of 106 scientists from 24 countries. The nomination was made by Optica Publishing Group, formerly known as Optical Society of America (OSA). Jyrki receives this honourable award for technical innovation and leadership in entrepreneurship, commercialization, and strategic developments in photonics businesses.

As the founder and first employee of Heptagon Ltd., he built the company into the world-leading developer and manufacturer of advanced micro-optics solutions with over one thousand employees and operations in Singapore, Switzerland, China, and Silicon Valley. In 2016 Heptagon was acquired by Austrian ams AG for nearly $920M. Dr Saarinen is a professor of photonics at the University of Eastern Finland. He is a former president of the European Optical Society. He is an active board and advisory member in several growth companies. Prof. Saarinen has been a steering group member in the development of Sensmet's µDOES® process water analyser technology since 2014. He has been a Sensmet Ltd. board member since 2019.
