Markus Rauhalahti has joined Sensmet to work as a data scientist. Markus is about to finish his PhD in computational chemistry at the University of Helsinki. With his solid skills in scientific computing and software development, Markus will significantly strengthen Sensmet’s expertise in the most demanding data-driven applications.
Last year, Sensmet launched the new uDOES® multi-metal water analyser. The first industrial applications of the µDOES® analyser have taken place earlier this year. Markus’ work includes developing Sensmet cloud interface and robust data analytics pipelines with easy-to-use machine learning tools for future expansion of the Sensmet product offering.
“Sensmet solves a real and substantial problem: understanding the chemistry of water in real-time in real-world settings. I enjoy tackling meaningful and hard problems, and this certainly belongs to that category. With a background in academic research and early-stage startups, I’m fascinated how the team and culture at Sensmet combine the best of both worlds: deep scientific understanding and curiosity with an agile, get-stuff-done attitude.” says Markus about why he got interested in Sensmet.
“Knowing the water constituents and their dynamics accurately is just the first step, opening the door to understanding of systems through the powerful tools of statistical modeling and machine learning. The possibilities and the need for this is immense - it is amazing to be here in this early phase with a skillful and focused team like this.” he comments.
Markus has been doing research for most of his time at the University of Helsinki, with research visits to Universidad Autónoma de Chile and Colorado State University. Markus has also gained experience of working in early start-up companies with his friends. It shows well his positive attitude towards entrepreneurship and growth companies. Among other hobbies, he is interested in climbing, sailing and painting.
We wish Markus warmly welcomed to Sensmet. It's great to have you on board!
